David Hillhouse
Greasby, Wirral, Merseyside
I paint acrylics onto a thickly primed acrylic gesso panel. I use a limited palette of colours and do not use white. I often scratch out of my painted surfaces and find the white ground very suitable. This technique is reminiscent of a watercolour method although in acrylics it is possible to scratch out more accurately and to a greater extent. I like to paint allotments and other gardens, old farm buildings and am interested in the way we leave evidence of our activities on landsape. My paintings have an underlying theme of change and time and the way our preconceptions can affect the way we perceive what is or is not of value.
