George Thompson
West Kirby, Wirral, United Kingdom
My paintings range between the representational and completely abstract. With the more abstract paintings a subject isn't always apparent until the end, and not always even then. Recognisable features, very often, only appear by accident or by good fortune. The starting off point for my abstract painting can be almost anything, a newspaper cutting, a still life, a letter of the alphabet, anything that gives me the basic shape, which I can develop. My representational paintings are usually landscapes or still life, and I generally use a canvas board for these. For more experimental work I use hardboard with a gesso base, or even off cuts of mount board and textured melamine.
