Early on in my painting career I had a fascination for working with grids, mathematics, repetition and pattern. This was encouraged at St. Martin’s under the tutelage of the constructivist artist, Alan Reynolds. Art college also introduced to the art of amongst others, Rothko, Sean Scully, Brice Marden, Ellsworth Kelly and Agnes Martin and led me into a preferred way of working with lines and stripes which continue to sustain and absorb my interest at the present time.
On moving to Cornwall five years ago, the use of colour across the whole spectrum has flooded into my paintings and constructions, opening up anew aspect of the work in the creation of time, movement and illusion.
